International Cat Show June 20 - 21 by WCF - PFC at Royal Canin Educational Hub Cainta

There’s something truly special about show day - the early prep, the quiet anticipation, and that moment when your cat steps into the ring and simply shines. At Birch & Bramble, we’re always grateful for the opportunity to join an International Cat Show and have our British Shorthairs evaluated by expert judges. It’s an honor, a learning experience, and a meaningful checkpoint for our breeding program.

We often say that cat shows aren’t only about ribbons. They’re about standards, education, and community. They help preserve the integrity of the breed and encourage breeders to keep improving—always with the cats’ wellbeing at the center of everything.

Why Judging Day Matters

Judging day is where all the behind-the-scenes work becomes visible. It’s where health, structure, coat quality, and temperament are assessed in a professional setting—by people who have dedicated years to studying the breed.

For us, having our cats evaluated is valuable because it:

- Confirms that we’re raising cats that align with breed standards

- Highlights strengths we can continue to develop

- Points out areas we can improve responsibly

- Reinforces our commitment to ethical, health-first breeding

Here’s what we recommend to anyone curious about cat shows: think of them as a form of quality assurance. A judge’s trained eye can catch details that help guide better breeding choices over time.

What Judges Look For in British Shorthairs

British Shorthairs are known for their plush coats, round features, and calm, steady temperament. In the ring, judges evaluate a combination of physical traits and overall condition.

While every show and judge may emphasize different details, British Shorthairs are often assessed on:

Health and condition: clear eyes, clean ears, healthy skin, good weight and muscle tone

Temperament: calm handling, confidence, and comfort in a busy environment

Coat quality: density, texture, and overall grooming

Structure and balance: head shape, body proportions, bone structure, and movement

Breed type: the overall “British” look—soft, round, and well-balanced

From their health and temperament to their stunning coat quality, every detail matters. And we love that the judging process encourages breeders to focus on the whole cat—not just appearance.

The Care Behind the Ring

When people see a British Shorthair in the ring, they see elegance and charm. What they don’t always see is the daily routine that supports that moment.

At Birch & Bramble, we prioritize health, temperament, and ethical breeding. That means our cats are raised in a clean indoor home environment with intentional socialization—so they’re comfortable around people, gentle handling, and everyday household sounds.

For your cat’s comfort and safety, we also take show preparation seriously. That includes:

- Keeping routines predictable leading up to the event

- Ensuring our cats are well-rested and hydrated

- Using calm handling and breaks when needed

- Maintaining grooming and coat care without overdoing it

We never want show day to be stressful. A confident, well-adjusted cat is always the goal because temperament is just as important as type.

Pride, Not Pressure

We’re proud of how our fur babies represent Birch & Bramble, but we also hold our expectations gently. Shows are exciting, but they’re still just one part of a bigger picture.

A cat can have an “off” day. A venue can be noisier than expected. A judge may prefer slightly different traits within the standard. That’s why we focus on learning and growth - not perfection.

And honestly, one of the best feelings is watching our cats handle the ring with calm confidence. That steadiness reflects the kind of environment they’re raised in—safe, loving, and respectful.

Thank You to the Judges

We’re deeply grateful to the amazing judges for their time, expertise, and feedback. Their evaluations help us continue to improve and maintain the highest standards for our cats.

Feedback from experienced judges matters because it:

- Encourages responsible breeding decisions

- Supports better long-term health and type

- Helps preserve the quality of the breed

- Keeps the community learning and evolving

We’re honored to be part of a space where knowledge is shared and excellence is encouraged - always with the cats’ wellbeing in mind.

Looking Ahead

Every show inspires us to keep refining our program - staying consistent with health testing, prioritizing temperament, and continuing to raise cats that are not only beautiful, but truly wonderful companions.

To everyone who supports Birch & Bramble - thank you. Whether you follow our journey online, meet us at events, or cheer for our cats from afar, your support means the world.

We can’t wait for the next show day, the next learning opportunity, and the next moment our British Shorthairs take center stage.

With gratitude,
Birch & Bramble
