Cody’s Rehoming Day: Our British Shorthair Joins Bea and Family

Some days at Birch & Bramble Cattery stay with us long after they are over. Cody’s rehoming day was one of them: a moment of pride, gratitude, and a little emotion as a kitten we had watched grow began a new chapter with Bea and her family. 🐱💜

Welcoming a kitten means making room for a new companion in everyday life. For us, this milestone also means entrusting a much-loved member of our cattery family to people who will continue his story.

From our cattery to his forever family

From his early kitten days to the curious, playful companion he has become, watching Cody grow has been a joy. Feeding time, playtime, gentle handling, and the small routines of cattery life gave us many opportunities to get to know him.

Those everyday moments are what make rehoming bittersweet. We are happy to see him begin life with a family of his own, while knowing we will miss his familiar presence at home.

A handover worth remembering

As we made our way to the condo for Cody’s handover, we carried more than the things prepared for his new home. We carried the memories of raising him and our hopes for the life ahead of him.

The photographs capture this milestone beautifully: Cody in his new family’s arms, his folder ready for the journey, and everyone together for a keepsake. We also recorded moments from the day on video, giving us another way to look back on this special goodbye.

What responsible rehoming means to us

Finding the right home takes care and conversation. We take time to get to know prospective families and support them as they prepare to welcome a companion. Our commitment continues beyond the handover.

For us, that means keeping three priorities in mind:

  • A thoughtful match. Every kitten has an individual personality, and every household has its own routines.
  • Clear communication. Families should have an opportunity to ask questions and understand the care their kitten is used to.
  • Continued support. We remain available for guidance as our kittens begin life with their forever families.

Rehoming day is a milestone in that relationship. The years of companionship that follow are what we hope for every kitten raised at Birch & Bramble.

We hope he brings companionship, laughter, and the little everyday moments that make life with a cat so special. We look forward to seeing him settle into this next chapter at his own pace.
