Bringing Home a Birch & Bramble Kitten: What to Expect From Our Adoption Process
Share
Welcoming a new kitten into your home is one of life’s sweetest joys. At Birch & Bramble Cattery, we know that choosing the right breeder — and the right kitten — is a big decision. That’s why we’ve designed an adoption process that’s thoughtful, transparent, and focused on the well-being of both our kittens and their future families.
If you're considering adopting one of our British Shorthair kittens, here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect from us — from first inquiry to gotcha day.
Step 1: Get in Touch
The journey starts with your inquiry. Whether you’ve spotted a kitten you love on our socials or are joining our waitlist for an upcoming litter, we love hearing from future cat parents. You can message us via our website or reach out through Instagram or Facebook.
We’ll ask you a few simple questions to get to know you, your home, and your experience with cats. This isn’t a test — it’s a conversation. We want to ensure our kittens go to loving, safe, and committed homes.
Step 2: Reserve Your Kitten
Once kittens are born and we’ve had time to assess their health and development, we begin accepting deposits. A reservation deposit secures your place in line or confirms your chosen kitten. We will never overpromise or rush — our goal is to match kittens with homes based on personality, needs, and lifestyle fit.
Kittens are typically ready for new homes around 12–14 weeks old, after they are fully weaned, vaccinated, dewormed, and cleared by our veterinarian.
Step 3: Watch Them Grow
One of the most exciting parts of adopting from Birch & Bramble is staying connected as your kitten grows. We send regular photo and video updates so you can watch their development and bond with them even before they arrive. You'll get a peek into their playtime, personality, and milestones — it’s part of what makes this journey so special.
Step 4: Preparation & Education
Before your kitten goes home, we’ll provide:
- A full health record (vaccinations, deworming, vet checks)
- A starter care guide with tips on feeding, litter, and adjustment
- A small kitten pack with familiar toys or blankets to ease the transition
- Ongoing support — you can always reach out with questions!
We’re also happy to offer product recommendations (like toys, litter boxes, or scratching posts) based on what our kittens are used to.
Step 5: Gotcha Day!
The day you meet your kitten is pure magic. Pick-up dates are arranged once your kitten is ready, and we’ll coordinate a smooth, stress-free handover. If you’re located further away, we can discuss delivery or transport options depending on your location and needs.
We love seeing our kittens off to their new lives — and yes, we’ll probably cry (just a little).
Beyond Adoption: Our Lifelong Commitment
Even after your kitten comes home, we’re still here. Whether it’s a question about nutrition, behavior, or just a cute update, we love staying in touch. You’re not just adopting a kitten — you’re joining the Birch & Bramble family.
